The Wild Within ~ A Five Elements Journey Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat

  • The Mudhouse Marayoor Off Munnar - Udumalpet Road Marayoor, Kerala, 685620 India (map)

Beneath the noise of daily life lies a deeper rhythm - one that echoes through forests, seasons, breath, and body.

We are finally journeying to the birthplace of yoga - India.

And I truly couldn't imagine a more perfect place for us to gather than The Mudhouse. Join us for a retreat of yoga & Ayurveda, reflection, and connection as we rediscover the wild wisdom that lives within us all.

The Wild Within is an invitation to reconnect with your innate nature. Through movement, stillness, and time immersed in the natural world, we explore what it means to belong - to ourselves, to each other, and to the living earth.

A journey through the five elements, returning us to the wisdom, vitality, and wholeness that have been within us all along.

The Mudhouse, Marayoor

I found The Mudhouse, and somehow, it felt as though The Mudhouse found me too. I chose this special place for our retreat because it perfectly embodies the spirit of The Wild Within. The Mudhouse is a boutique eco-retreat in the peaceful town of Marayoor, on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Nestled among rolling hills, mountains, ancient forests, and sweeping mountain views with open skies, it offers a rare sense of simplicity and connection to nature. There is a quiet authenticity here - a feeling of slowing down, breathing more deeply, and returning to what truly matters. It felt like the perfect home for our journey into The Wild Within.

Owned and managed by Pushpa and her family, The Mudhouse was born from a desire to reconnect with their roots and create a home away from the pace of city life. They found that home in Marayoor, a place that offers all the beauty and charm of nearby Munnar while remaining untouched by its bustling tourist crowds. At the Mudhouse, the rhythms of nature and local culture weave together, creating a space that feels both grounding and deeply restorative.

Sustainability lies at the heart of The Mudhouse. Conceived as both an experiment and an ongoing educational journey, the resort continually evolves in its commitment to conscious living and responsible hospitality.

After practice, a nourishing Ayurvedic breakfast awaits. Enjoy delicious local flavors and wholesome dishes designed to nourish your body and delight your senses.

Optional activities and excursions are available for those wishing to explore. This retreat offers the rare gift of spaciousness—a chance to slow down and listen to what you truly need.

Twice during the week, we will gather for special workshops: a natural dye workshop and an Ayurvedic cooking class. These immersive experiences are designed to deepen your understanding of yoga, Ayurveda, and the rich local culture of the region.

As the day begins to soften, we come together once more for our evening yoga and meditation practice. Accompanied by the golden light of sunset, this practice invites you to unwind, release the day, and return to a place of inner calm.

Following practice, we share a wholesome Ayurvedic dinner, enjoying nourishing food and the company of our retreat community. As night falls, the magic of silence and star-filled skies invites deep rest and reflection.

Tree House “Erumadam”

The concept of Erumadam was inspired by the traditional ‘Erumadam’ or ‘watch towers’ once built by farmers in Marayoor to ward off wild animal attacks. Designed primarily with organic materials, Erumadam is nestled in a tree, offering panoramic vistas of the valley and mountain ranges—making it the perfect escape for the romantic at heart.

Nestled closed to the forests, Erumadam is built consciously using locally sourced materials. The second floor of the structure forms the bedroom. Airy and quaint, the space gives you a feeling of floating in mid air. The bedroom window opsns to the east, from where you can witness the sun’s ray peeking over the mountains early in the morning.

Crudely shaped wooden stairs lead you down to the first floor balcony from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Sahyadri. Attached to the balcony is a bathroom open to the skies.

Modeled after a tropical forest, the washroom often spots a bird or two resting in the shade of Calatheas and Cannas. An intimate seating space, a hammock and a bougainvillea await you on the ground level. Full of energy, Erumadam draws you in and fills you with a seamless connection to life around you.
