Tarakwai Safaris ~ Your Guide in Tanzania:

Tarakwai, or Oltarakwai, is the Maasai name for the Juniper tree. The Maasai value it for rituals where smoke from the burning Oltarakwai wood is used to bless individuals undergoing certain rites of passage. We at Tarakwai appreciate traditions where the natural world is held sacred; a spirit we try to embody in our safaris.

Jay, a founder of Tarakwai grew up in Tanzania and while he studied and lived abroad, his connection to this country has never left. His favourite part has always been seeing how pastoralists like the Maasai - to the extent they can - live so connected to nature. On his last trip back to Tanzania, he made the decision to start Tarakwai; a company that highlights the interconnectedness of life and shares that connection with the traveller.
